It is in the Douro region, in the north of Portugal, that we find the one that was considered "the best road in the world", so let yourself be guided by its 93 curves in the company of the vineyards and the river that follows the entire course of the National -222 and accept an invitation for a 3-night program.
Take a short break in the Douro wine region with car rental included and stay in a selection of the best boutique hotels in the region: The Vintage House Douro in Pinhão, Solar Egas Moniz Charming House in Penafiel and 1872 River House in Porto. Enjoy a region marked by the wine culture and the river that crosses the whole region.
At your arrival in Porto head towards Vila Real, descend to Provesende on a road that is a natural lookout point overlooking the river Douro, with your destination very close, the Vintage House Hotel Douro in Pinhão. Have a restful night by the river, surrounded by the best that the Douro offers, the wine.
On the following day, follow the journey accompanied by the landscape with steep banks with vineyards and the Douro river, which make National-222 road one of the most beautiful roads. Going to Peso da Régua, you can enjoy a region that once was an important commercial warehouse for the wine trade that grew old in the cellars and enjoy a wine tasting at Quinta da Pacheca. Continue along the best road in the world towards Penafiel and spend the night at Solar Egas Moniz Charming House.
On the second day, you can enjoy Penafiel, visit Quinta da Aveleda where you can try other wines and cheese. Get to know the history of the region at the municipal museum of Penafiel and then continue through National-222 towards Porto where the night will be at the 1872 River House. Without ever forgetting the river Douro, sleep next to it.
Your last day is dedicated to the city that was considered the best European destination and has stories to tell in all its “nooks and crannies”. Inspire yourself in a riverside town where cosmopolitan life blends in with ancient history.
