Walk along the old historic Douro railway line that crossed between Porto and Paris.
The "Rota dos Túneis" (tunnel route) was once a railway that connected Porto to Paris. Deactivated more than 30 years ago, it is now a path of tunnels and bridges over 30 meters high that stretches for 17 kilometres. The route runs between Barca d ’Alva, a Portuguese station and La Fregeneda, in Spain.
The journey takes about 4 to 6 hours and is quite linear, just follow the railways. Altogether there will be 8 bridges and 20 tunnels, on a route surrounded by nature and with the rivers Águeda and Douro at your side.
You can make the route on one of the days and on the other visit Vila Nova de Foz Côa where the Vale Côa Archaeological Park and Museum are located.
In these two nights, rest by the river Douro at Casa do Rio.
The route is set on a deactivated rail with more than 17 kilometres. The level of difficulty is high. You should have a lantern, water and food. Not recommend for underage. This tour is self-guided so it is up to you to decide your date of departure, we will be here for you!
