In the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, Madeira island has an exuberant nature and one of the most beautiful forests classified by UNESCO as World Heritage.
The Destination
Madeira island is the main island of the archipelago, it has volcanic origin and distinct exotic flora and fauna. The main landscape is mountains and profound valleys, along the coast, there are beaches with volcanic sand and one of the most famous attractions are the “Levadas”, the irrigation channels built by the island's population to carry water from thousands of springs to the fields of cultivation. These levadas are in the middle of the mountains and people can walk among them at the Laurissilva forest, protected as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
The Laurissilva forest has endemic species and also plants brought by the colonists, as well as cultivated tropical varieties, such as bananas and passion fruit, among others which is why the visit is mandatory. The Island is also full of cultural and gastronomic heritage, completing the reasons why you should visit Madeira.
